Hermantown Community Schools

Welcome to Hermantown Community Schools

Welcome to Hermantown Community Schools. It is my desire to use this platform to acquaint you with our schools, its programs, and the opportunities for students who attend here. The mission, “Partnering with the community to support and prepare all learners to create their own future," is to provide the best possible educational experience with the wisest use of resources for students attending Hermantown Community Schools.

Hermantown Community Schools place intentional emphasis on community involvement and the pursuit of excellence in our programming. An index of excellent educational programming is found in an overwhelming response by community volunteers in our schools. We believe that our recognized educational success comes from having quality educators, dedicated educational support personnel, and outstanding parental involvement in our schools.

Our resident population continues to grow, and in 2016, the District completed a nearly $50 million dollar renovation to its facilities. The District consists of three educational facilities, including a combined high school/middle school (grades 5 - 12), an elementary school (K - 4) and an early childhood/family education building.

Hermantown High School, serving grades nine through twelve, was finished with construction in August of 2016 and has a student population of approximately 650. Both curricular and co-curricular programs at the High School provide a myriad of offerings for students who are preparing for postsecondary education or technical employment. Approximately 80 percent choose to further their education at the university, college, or technical level. We boast rigorous academic programs, with an emphasis on math, science, and foreign languages, which help prepare students for their next step in life. The co-curricular programs include drama, speech and a number of specialized clubs, such as Math League, Clay Target League, Robotics, and Knowledge Bowl. Extra-curricular activities are held in over 20 sports.

The Middle School building is currently housed in what was built in 1988 as the high school. Its 750 member student body houses an upper-elementary program for grade five, while sixth through eighth graders enjoy a middle school model that emphasizes social emotional growth along with challenging academic responsibilities. Grades 6-8 have an advisor/advisee time built into their daily schedule with several co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for the students.

The Elementary School is home to kindergarten through grade four with a student population of approximately 760. Along with smaller class sizes and a concentrated effort at helping each student become a successful learner, there is also a full complement of educational specialists in music, art, physical education and computer science. An addition to the Elementary School, built in 2015, provided more space for the 4th graders and a new gymnasium. The Kids' Zone Program, also housed in the Elementary School, provides a safe and friendly environment for students requiring supervision before or after school.

All pre-K programs are based in the Hermantown Community Learning Center. This brand new facility had its grand opening in August 2020. This facility provides a wide variety of programs for both children and their parents/guardians. It is enthusiastically received by the families of our young children, who appreciate the friendly, caring staff.

We're glad you've stopped in for a visit and look forward to serving your current and future educational needs.
